To say that DC Design house this year was stunning is an understatement. It was and stays an unlimited source of inspiration and respect for a lot of talent. I went on the last day it was still open to public and boy was I happy I went.
Here is my gallery of fantastic ideas that caught my eye.

Donation basket

I partnered with Calico Corners on this cute donation basket for a local school. I donated the upholstered ottoman and window cornice and Calico donated the pillows in matching color. Can’t wait to see who is the lucky winner of this basket!

Trendy spring colors in your home decor

Spring is here and so are the newest trendy colors around us. The coral colored and patterned fabrics are so much fun, that they really make smaller scale designs pop.

When does the upholstery of old furniture make sense? Is it a nostalgic feeling for some old chair from grandma? Did we fall in love with this old chair at the auction, bought it and thought one day it will be reupholstered with the fabric of our choice? Or is the furniture currently stained so bad from the kids that it is becoming embarrassing to keep it in the living room? For these reasons and more, you should consider reupholstering your current furniture to give it new life. The best part is the freedom of fabric choice to match your home decor or give it a brand new makeover for a whole room.

The chair turned out fantastic with the perfect choice of the chenille fabric and a brand new seat cushion.

Twin chairs reupholstered

This old chair was one of the two that needed a makeover to fit a modern looking house for a young family. The small chairs were perfect to use for children too.

The outdated fabric had been ripped by cats.

The small patterned fabric works great with other decor in the room.

And here are the new chairs! Looking quite lovely.

Why Italian design leads the way

A good homemade cappuccino was recently on my mind, one that I could make in the comfort of my home and would preferably take me back to Rome.
Not an easy task, since I believe that the best espresso and cappuccino is made in Sant’Eustachio Caffe in Rome, located right behind the Pantheon.
Yet, I was hopeful and so, the Italian taste and not last the Italian design of the machine were my criteria.
I didn’t have to go very far.
The new Espressamente illy cafes are fairly new to the U.S market and are as unique as each city they are in. The Italian espresso giant opened its first free-standing American Espressamente illy cafe in San Francisco only a year ago. Their attention to design and style is distinctly Italian-illy. And so are their machines. They offer the best of both worlds. Their striking design and the truly Italian taste are combined in illy.
For me the best coffee hands down and so is the Italian design.

Change in the Living room – Before and after

To dress up these two living room windows was quite a challenge for a while for the owner of the house. One window was deeply set with a different length and height then the other one.
I suggested a cornice to cover the height differences and make them equal height. The deeply set window disappeared once the cornice was placed on the outside of it.
The small patterned fabric was chosen to allow further transformation in the room, either in the form of a new furniture or just accessories.

Dressing the windows in the bedroom

This spacious bedroom was transformed by this set of window cornices. The neutral color of the fabric is very soothing for the bedroom and dresses up the windows quite elegantly.
